My closet is a pathetic abyss of nothingness. Each day starts off the same: wake up, shower, look in my closet, see nothing, weep. In that order. A vicious cycle it is however, I have struck informatively so to speak. With a little research and wise council, I've finally grasped the concept of building a better wardrobe. Which is a huge accomplishment for an impulse buyer like myself.
Before you even step foot inside any store, make sure you:
1. Survey your closet.
Your closet should always be proportionate you the lifestyle you live. I kind of struggle with this one myself. If you took a peek into my closet, you'd probably think I'm some tree-hugging hipster that's strung out on brightly colored tights and printed leggings. Only half of that statement is true, and I need to fix that (the proportion thing not the tree hugging thing). But you should determine what activities you spend most of your time doing. If you spend 65% of your time at work, then 65% of your closet should be full of work adaptable clothing.

2. Survey your surroundings.
- Your closet should reflect your lifestyle AND your surroundings. This is especially true for seasons. If you live in San Antonio, its pretty pointless to have a closet stuffed to the brim with heavy coats and snow boots. Your closet should live in social agreement with the seasons where you live.
3. Survey your remnants.
- If it hasn't seen daylight in 6 months to a year toss it or donate it.
On his Bravo show Tim Gun's Guide To Style, Tim talks about the 10 essential items every woman should own in her wardrobe. They are:
- A basic black dress
- A trench coat
- Classic black pants
- A skirt
- A blazer
- A classic white shirt
- A day dress
- A cashmere sweater
- Jeans
- A sweatsuit alternate
- Bonus: one indulgent trendy item under $20
Although it may seem boring, acquiring the basics is always a good idea. It gives your wardrobe a good, solid foundation. Thrift stores like Goodwill and the Salvation army are god mines, and they're really easy on your pockets. A few other key items to any good wardrobe are:
- a good pair of leggings
- a cute, versatile scarf
- one really good pair of heels
Remember this: the best accessory a woman can wear is self confidence. Know yourself, love yourself, and express yourself. If you think you look good, other people will too.
Til next time ladies,

This was helpful. I lack the basics. Im always looking for something to wear on those simple days where I dont feel like dressing up. Im either heals and leggings or skinny jeans, or flip flops and sweat pants. Lol! I really need to get the basics for those inbetween days!
